The Department is a part of the Faculty of Social Lores
since 1985. It has its morning in 1978 as a Cell with conditioning connected to
the charge programmes of Government of India and grew into a‘Center for Adult
Continuing Education and Extension’with preface and conduct
ofnon-credit,non-evaluative short- term courses in areas of particular interest
creation, income generation and skill development. In order to establish a University-
community interface the Department has been constantly designing and developing
programmes of education and service in the field of Knowledge, Science and
Sports Journalism, Legal Knowledge, Public Interest Litigation, Sports Medicine

Management, Guidance and Counseling, Travel and Tourism, Rapid Reading,

The Department has replaced its One Time PostM.A. Diploma in Adult and
Continuing Education ( introduced in 1984) with a two time Master Degree course
named Lifelong Literacy and Extension in 2014.Ph.D. programme in Adult and
Continuing Education is being offered since 1991. The Department has also
introducedM.Phil. Programme in Lifelong Learning & Extension since 2014.
Under extension
programme and services the Department continues with its commerce with
Community for offering need grounded services and gaining sapience into the

Schools are organized regularly for enrichment of the faculty and participating
the knowledge gained with the community and peer groups.
The faculty of the Department works on the specific systems
and publishes its findings on different academic area. One of the newest
enterprise has been the association of International Autumn School for scholars
and faculty from different countries on European and Asian Perspectives of

Association with University of Wurzburg, Germany in July 2015 under which
scholars and faculty are bearing mobility and exchange programme.
The University
Subventions Commission (UGC) has played a crucial part in shaping the character
of University Adult Education in India since the launching of the National
Adult Education Programme in 1978. During the last two decades, the UGC has not
only formulated a number of guidelines on adult continuing education programmes,
but has also handed one hundred per cent backing support to universities to
